When my husband told me this homemade granola was his favorite thing I’ve made, I knew I had to share. It’s simple to make, tastes so much better than any store-bought granola I’ve tried, and it’s cheaper and better for you! I double the recipe and make a big batch every other week. It has become our go-to breakfast this the past few months with this vanilla greek yogurt.
My dad’s aunt growing up would make granola and I had always held onto how sweet it was that she would make it homemade (along with many, many other things). I struggled for awhile with wanting to eat more yogurt because it is a great, protein-packed breakfast option, but I have never found a granola I liked that was a decent price, and didn’t have a ton of unnecessary added ingredients. Experimenting with making things from scratch and trying homemade recipes is something I have been enjoying and can’t wait to keep sharing more of the recipes I try.
Thanks to a quick Pinterest search, I was inspired to try it making a healthy homemade granola myself and I now thoroughly enjoy the weekday mornings when I can quickly prep this and it makes our whole house smell warm & cozy.
Homemade Granola Recipe
Recipe adopted from Living Beyond Allergies
2 cups oats
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup oil of choice (I use EVOO)
1 tsp vanilla
Few spoonfuls of chia seeds
Optional/add-ons: nuts, dried fruit, unsweetened coconut flakes, chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 300. In a large bowl, mix all of your ingredients until well blended and coated. I use my KitchenAid mixer and it makes it fun and super quick.
Spread the mixture onto a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or I use these baking mats. Bake 10 minutes, give everything a good stir, then bake another 10 minutes. For my double batch, I do 15 minutes then another 15 minutes. Remove and allow to cool before storing.
I love storing baked goods in mason jars – these containers would be another great option.
