Book Links: Garden City / Hidden Christmas
Welcome to this month’s Friday Five! If you’re new around here, hello 🙂 I’m ecstatic you found my blog. The Friday Five is a monthly blog post I write on the last Friday of every month to recap the month and share five good things from the month – I like to share: something I’m learning or an encouragement, something worth listening to/watching, recipes, recent purchases, current reads, and things I have on my radar.
January has felt so long, but it has been wonderful! My husband and I had a few great date days and evenings, explored with our new snowshoes, went on a winter hike, visited two new breweries, had a cozy cabin weekend with some good friends, planned for 2022 (and just a lot of life chats in general!) as individuals and as a couple, celebrated my mom turning 60 with my whole family, and made a few new recipes. Looking forward to temperatures warming up a bit (hopefully) in February, more restful weekends, and enjoying the gift of life!
Here are five bits of goodness to kick off the weekend:
- Learning lately: How our relationship with God affects every area of our life, ridding self-focus and continually replacing it with the service of others, and being confident in feeling/looking different than the world – being set apart! SO much goodness to start 2022 – thank you Jesus.
- Recipe: This pasta was fantastic, and super easy to make. I loved that it was minimal, simple ingredients as well. Discovered homemade coffee creamer this month as well, and let me tell you, I’m obsessed. Sharing my recipe here!
- Worth watching/listening: My husband and I are Yellowstone freaks, we loved it, so we decided to try the show 1883. It’s wonderful! I thought I would compare it too much to Yellowstone, but it’s really good in it’s own unique way. Really enjoyed this podcast about controversy as a Christian as well. My biggest takeaway was that we should treat those we agree with and don’t agree with the SAME. Being consistent in truth, respect, and grace, just as Jesus is with us.
- Currently reading: Pictured in the photo above, I recently read Hidden Christmas and am currently reading Garden City (very quickly)! Hidden Christmas was an excellent book and not only was it a great reminder about the true meaning of Christmas, but I saw it more as a book I would recommend to anyone walking with the Lord (and in any season of life). I learned so much! I haven’t been able to put Garden City down – it’s so good. Unlike any book I’ve read! It’s about work & rest – WOW, so many new perspectives I’ve never even thought of when it comes to work. There’s such a negative connotation sometimes with your “day job” and just working to live, but I’ve felt refreshed knowing God created humans to work to build the culture, and that each job makes a difference. And to not forget about your call as a Christian during “work hours” (and all hours) to work for the Lord, to strive to represent Him in all your actions and words, and to share about Him!
- Recent purchase: This quilted mock neck sweatshirt was one of my best purchases in awhile. It is thick, the mock neck is perfect for winter, and the oatmeal color made it the perfect addition to my winter wardrobe! It has been on sale for 50% off for awhile, making it $49 – such a great deal for a quality piece.
